This is a nice shot glass, and the 1oz mark is extremely useful, especially if your espresso machine does not automatically stop brewing. However, the glass is 3″ tall, and therefore does not fit properly with a DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker. You will have to move the glass aside and remove the metal grate in order to take your shot glass out from under the portafilter.

I ordered this 2-ounce shot glass to use for 2-ounce shots from our espresso machine. It is a nice shot glass, but the line is at the one ounce mark, and it fills to the brim for two ounces. This leads to spills and burned fingers if you really want two ounces. In my mind it would be better to call it a 1-ounce shot glass, and I will have to look for something else for my purposes. On the other hand it is great for single shots and a keeper.

Very sturdy, heavy, thick and with an easily seen 1.5oz line. I use this type of shot glass 1-2 times daily for espresso. While one broke falling off the counter, they are otherwise quite tough. Plus the price is right. Can’t go wrong with these!

Nothing better than enjoying your own home roasted espresso in the morning, no?

This is the knockout box I am replacing. One reviewer didn’t like the rubber hose. I don’t mind that sort of thing. The size is fine. The quality is fine. The object is inexpensive and highly utilitarian.

The reason I am replacing this one, though, is that the nuts holding the bar come loose periodically, requiring you to tighten them. Forget to tighten them and one will inevitably pop off in the middle of a vigorous pounding, leaving the puck to disintegrate into flying grounds (happened twice). The manufacturer should add lock-nuts to the construction.

Also, the black base is painted fiberboard. Eh. Solid hardwood would be nice, but would cost more. Solid rubber might be better. So, I will get either this one RSVP Modern Espresso Knockout Box, or one from SweetMarias dot com, the site where I get all my coffee roasting gear.

I was a little disappointed in the quality. The bar for the knock box is coated with plumber’s tubing, and the fit of the tin insert is a little chintzy. However, it does the job just fine.

Of course the great question is how do you know that you need a new gasket and then why do you need the filter? Well that’s rather easy, instead of all the espresso grounds staying in their stainless cup, they also adhere to the filter above and cover that with espresso. If you are having that problem, and have to wash the insides out inside of just tapping it onto a paper towel, then it’s time to change the gasket.

This is the only set of gaskets that I found that also came with the stainless steel filter. I didn’t need the filter but after having a lot of these over the years — we used to be electric but they fail within a year and half — I can tell you that the gasket from repeated temperature changes will fail as well.

It’s a piece of cake to replace the gasket. Just open the Macchiato as if you were putting in new coffee and instead wash the top part so you can see the gasket. Pop it out with a butter knife and then push the new one down. Follow the instructions on the back and then make your espresso. Voila you are done. Great set. Highly recommended.

I’ve had these for several weeks and so far I am very impressed with them. I have a 3 cup Moka pot that I bought in Italy years ago and in the past, I’ve always used Bialetti rubber gaskets. These are so much better!

After one or two uses, the rubber gaskets begin to show signs of wear – the silicone gasket that I’ve had in place for almost a month still looks brand new. Also, the rubber gaskets attract espresso grounds that stick to them and sometimes have to be removed with a fingernail or scrubbing – no problem with the silicone, just rinse and they’re clean. Another benefit is that they are much easier to replace and remove. The rubber ones are quite stubborn, especially once they begin to harden – these just slide in and pop out.

I hope they last as long as it seems they will. So far I’m very happy!

For anyone else who has an 8″ tall Meazza & Masciadri stovetop espresso pot (boiler water capacity = 1 1/3 cup to bottom of pressure release valve), these gaskets appear to fit perfectly. The 2-3mm thickness is slightly less than the 4mm-thick rubber gaskets I’ve been using, but the seal seems snug when the unit is screwed together, and I’m interested to see how the silicone wears in comparison.
