I think they’re great, December 18, 2009
By

This review is from: Melitta Bamboo Coffee Filters, #4, 80-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)

I’m just finishing up my first three boxes of these and ordered three more. (I had to order directly from Melitta because for some reason these folks won’t ship to Hawai’i. This little snub took away one star.)

Personally I think the bamboo filters impart less of a taste to the coffee than the wood-based paper, especially the brown paper. I haven’t had any trouble with my filters coming apart or grounds spilling over the top.

Avoid, November 4, 2009
This review is from: Melitta Bamboo Coffee Filters, #4, 80-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)

I bought these thinking that using bamboo was a great idea as it’s highly renewable. But these filters do not do a good job at keeping the grounds in the filter, which obviously is all important. I tried using these four separate times and each time the filter leaked at the seam. And it wasn’t just the seam splitting. They actually deteriorated at the seam’s edges. The combination of bamboo and paper pulp does not seem to be able to withstand the flow of hot water. I use a pour-over method when making coffee, and I never have a problem with paper filters, so I’m confident that it’s not what I’m doing. It’s the composition of the filters. Maybe I got a bum batch, but maybe not. I won’t be using the 76 filters that I have left. It’s back to all paper for me.

This review is from: Melitta Bamboo Coffee Filters, #4, 80-Count Boxes (Pack of 6) (Grocery)

I initially purchased these bamboo filters while trying to order in quantity for my office. Amazon was out of stock on the regular paper filters, so I crossed my fingers, and tried these instead. I was immediately impressed by their performance, and received not a single complaint from the dozen or so fussy coffee-drinkers in our little club. I have since purchased two more of the six-packs for the coffeemaker here at the office. We easily brew 6 pots a day in our Krups dual-carafe machine, and have never had a problem.

They work just like the “real” thing, and are made of sustainable fibers. These *are* the filters you are looking for.

Best for your Bunn!, December 27, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: BUNN BCF100-B 100-Count Basket Filter (Kitchen)

This is the only filter to use with your Bunn 10-cup pourover coffee brewer. The store-brands and the Mr. Coffee brand filters are not tall enough to properly contain the grounds in the basket, due to the superior sprayer nozzle found on the Bunn coffee brewers.

Why you need these for a Bunn coffee machine…., March 14, 2004

I. T. Gavrilovic “gorgav” (New York, NY United States) – See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

This review is from: BUNN BCF100-B 100-Count Basket Filter (Kitchen)

If you own a Bunn coffee maker, then you either love it or hate it. The difference is likely due to the coffee filters you use. You *must* use Bunn brand filters for any of their 10 cup brewing machines. Here’s why:

-These 2.75 x 3" filters are uniquely designed for Bunn machines. They are almost 10% taller than other filters. If you try brewing coffee w/ another brand of filter (which is shorter), you will probably end up w/ filter overflow and nasty grounds in your coffee. Which is what some people don’t understand when they complain of coffee grounds in their mug.
-In addition, these filters are made from "special paper grade…[for] optimum extraction of coffee’s taste" and are "oxygen processed for better coffee flavor."

I don’t think they cost significantly more than other filters and are well worth buying. In fact, I will never use anything else in my Bunn BT10-B. However, they can be difficult to find in most grocery stores. I have found filters at St@pl&s and T@rg&t. And, of course, here at Amazon.com!

The ONLY filter to use in your Bunn, January 20, 2004
By
Matthew Hunter “Technology Geek” (Blacksburg, VA United States) – See all my reviews

This review is from: BUNN BCF100-B 100-Count Basket Filter (Kitchen)

Because I can’t find Bunn filters at any of my local stores, I’ve tried several other brands – trying to find one that would adequately replace the Bunn filter. My final conclusion – there aren’t any.

Aside from the fact that some other coffee filters leave a papery taste in your coffee, there’s another important reason to get these filters. Bunn coffee brewers can brew a whole pot of coffee in 3 minutes. To do this, they need to push a large amount of water through the grounds in a short period of time. Other coffee filters were not designed to support this high flow-rate. With filters like Mr. Coffee, my Bunn’s filter basket will occasionally overflow during the brew process – spilling coffee and grounds all over my counter. Other brands are too short and grounds manage to get over the filter, and then down into the coffee pot.

If you have a Bunn coffee maker, then you *need* Bunn filters.

Tip for Canadians: You can buy coffee filters at your local Tim Hortons – they say Tim Horton’s brand, but they are made by Bunn for Tim Hortons! I found this out the last time I was in Canada visiting family… good to know if you can’t find these elsewhere.

Great filters — buy at the store, November 19, 2005
By
Sherlock “sherlock221″ (Lancaster, Kentucky USA) – See all my reviews

These are great, high-quality filters. The person who gave them a poor review was giving that bad review to the vendor, not the product. These are inexpensive and it doesn’t make sense to pay shipping for them. You can buy these at the grocery store — and I would recommend doing that on something this inexpensive.

Melitta No. 4 – Review from Vender, January 6, 2011
This review is from: Melitta Natural Brown Basket Coffee Filter, #4 – 100 Count (Kitchen)

Melitta cone coffee filters are a premium brand made in the USA product. They brew excellent coffee in my home machine and are environmentally friendly in the sense that they are not unnecessarily bleached like white paper filters are. Additionally these filters are durable and lint free which makes them great for home, car, or office cleaning applications like computer screens or windows where lint and streaking are an issue. I use them, I like them, and I sell them on Amazon.

If you want a single cup of your favorite brand of coffee, this makes the Senseo machine a much better choice than the adaptors used by Keurig. I have used both and even though I prefer the Keurig system over the Senseo for other reasons, this accessory makes the Senseo machine perfect for those that want their own brand of coffee. Very durable and well built..easy to clean..a real bargain for the price….I’d give it 6 stars if I could.

This review is from: Melitta Coffee Filters for Percolators, White (3.5-Inch Discs), 100-Count Filters (Pack of 24) (Grocery)

These are a must for fans of the perc. They work perfectly, but die-hard percolator users know the key is to run the basket under cool water before inserting the filter, so it clings to the basket before scooping in the ground coffee. If you haven’t tried a perc and have memories of grandma’s bitter and stale percolated coffee, you owe it to yourself to try it….WITH filters!

A Superior Reusable Filter, January 5, 2011
By

Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Frieling USA Gold Coffee Filter # 2 (Kitchen)

At various times I have ordered this type of reusable filter along with theMelitta U S A Inc 640007 Perfect Brew Filter Cone to leave at family members homes so I always have a coffee maker available since most of them are not coffee drinkers and also for use in my rv.

This reusable filter is superior to a similar filter offered by another manufacturer that was previously offered on Amazon. It steeps the coffee a little longer which releases a better flavor in the cup and the filters gold toned surface is smoother and very easy to rinse clean.

This filter puts the Melitta U S A Inc 640007 Perfect Brew Filter Cone on par with the Swissgold KF 300 One-Cup Coffee Filter. I did prefer the Swissgold since it was much easier to clean. This is now a non issue.

I now find myself using this filter along with the Melitta Drip maker instead of the Swissgold. The design of the Melitta makes seeing the fill level of the cup easier and the slower drip gives a better flavor.

if you need larger filters you will find they are not that easily available. maybe a wholesale supplier but that is about it. other stores will have but they will be pricey. I now have about a 4yr supply of filters. All you need to do is order 25.00 worth of stuff and shipping is free. You will not find filters for a better price and I like knowing I will not run out. Filters are handy for popcorn sharing also!

Great for My Needs, August 22, 2008
This review is from: RSVP Maunual Drip Coffee Filter Cone for Carafes or Thermos (Kitchen)

I bought a Zojirushi 1L carafe and was very happy with it. Then read in the instructions that there was an option to put a Manual Drip Filter Cone that could be used to make coffee directly into the carafe. I checked it out on Amazon but saw a lot of criticisms that gave me pause. But slowly I started checking them out one by one and found them either to be wrong or irrelevant. The most important criticisms that I saw was that the thing dripped too slowly and was structurally unbalanced.

One reviewer made the claim that their Melitta One cup cone had 4 holes and thus drained coffee quickly. I also own a Melitta one cup drip cone and found that (despite claims to the contrary) there is only one hole in that device and that did not prevent the Melitta one cup from making coffee in less 30 seconds

There was also a claim that Melitta’s 10 cup Cone/Carafe would be better as it would be faster than this Manual Drip Coffee Cone. But I checked out the Melitta at a local Ace Hardware and again it only has one hole. Plus the thing is so wide it would be useless for the purpose of making coffee directly into my Zojirushi carafe.

So seeing how these two criticisms were factually inaccurate I bit the bullet and bought the cone and just received it two days ago. On initial inspection, I can see how someone could say it seems structurally unstable. But this thing has a small hollow cylinder jutting out from the bottom of the cone (not shown in in the picture) through which coffee drains (like a typical funnel). And when you insert this cylinder into the narrow neck of a carafe or thermos it is absolutely rock solid. On my Zojirushi, it is as if they were made for each other. If you needed to use this make coffee for a cup or mug then you probably are better off with the Melitta one cup cone.

I ground my beans extra fine for cone filters and it took 3 minutes to make 1L of great coffee. I don’t know that may be way too long for some people (as others did not post times I can’t say) but it’s perfectly fine for me. So at least for me the claim of being too slow was just not true.

I can’t wait until the weekend. I usually percolate a pot of coffee and read the paper and some books to pass away the morning before exercising and doing household chores.

====================

It’s been over half a year since I bought the cone and have nothing but good experiences with it. I like it so much I bought another so I could make a pot of coffee at work. I have noticed that with extremely fine ground coffee (where the grounds turn to mud in the filter), the drainage is slower but you can try stirring the grounds as it drains, putting in the filter at a 90 degree angle to keep the filter from sticking against the sides of cone. I’ve never had a persitant problem of slow drainage. In any case, every day I use this cone to make a litre of coffee. It takes me less than 10 minutes to grind the beans, make the coffee, cleanup and walk back to my desk where all my coworkers fight amongst themselves as to who gets to drink my coffee a litre goes pretty fast when you’ve got five people drinking it.

I don’t claim that everyone will have this experience but as I said for someone who just wants a cup of coffee in the morning and some to share with friends, this has been a wonderful purchase.

Works great — important how-to-use detail, April 1, 2009

This review is from: RSVP Maunual Drip Coffee Filter Cone for Carafes or Thermos (Kitchen)

Every coffee making device in my house broke recently — the glass on the french press, the electric percolator, etc. I decided to buy this cone holder for a thermos carafe I have that has a flip-up lid. I wasnt sure if this would work, but it does, and the lid is not in the way. It’s a close call, but it does fit. I’m pleased with the way it drips, I dont find it too slow. The unit also is bigger than I envisioned. Right now I’m using up a pack of Bunn filters that arent even meant for this type of filter holder, but I can make do. After this, I’ll get the tallest cone filters, and that should make this whole arrangement Sweet! This was kind of expensive with the expedited shipping, over , but I am glad to have it, coffee tastes great, and I think it will work well with another carafe I had forgotten I had. It’s a sturdy item, too — should last indefinitely.

UPDATE SIX MONTHS LATER: The reason some people had trouble with this isnt because of the one hole, it’s because the paper filter sticks to the walls of the plastic cone after water is poured in, thus creating a vacuum seal. If you gently tug on the edge of the paper filter and release that seal, the coffee flows Very Fast out the one hole. The best way to use this product is with #6 cone filters because you can fill the cone with hot water all the way to the brim. #4′s also work, but if you get the #6′s, you’ll be glad you did. I finally bought a case of them through one of the Amazon vendors, and the results are just great. No slow dripping, perfect coffee every morning. After I discovered the technique of tugging the paper filter slightly, that made this product work like a charm. So don’t contemplate drilling any extra holes — the one hole is enough. I love it this set-up. (PS — You could use one of the gold mesh filters, and probably have no problem with slow dripping because no seal can be formed due to the rigid frame of that style filter.)

This is a wonderful product and perfect for camping. Low energy use (just boil water), fast (the reviewer who thought otherwise probably ground her coffee too finely), compact, simple to use and clean. The filter extension that fits into the throat of the container is a very stable design and the coffee stays warm for hours in any standard thermos or carafe. I’ve owned one for years and never leave home for the desert or mountains without it. Two thumbs up!

At 4.3-Cents Apiece, How Can You Go Wrong?, December 18, 2010

This review is from: Melitta Cone Coffee Filters, White, No. 4, 40-Count Filters (Pack of 12) (Grocery)

I’ve owned and used daily several Cuisinart 12-cup programmable coffee makers with the included “gold” coffee filter for at least 10 years… but I’ve never bothered using a Melitta Cone Filter since I graduated from my old Mr. Coffee-type coffee makers. I was under the impression that the Cusinart gold filters didn’t require the extra paper filter, and I don’t think the instruction manual even suggests or recommends using a paper filter in addition to the gold filter.

However, when I recently bought my latest Cuisinart 12-cupper, it came with a starter set of two or three Melitta-type paper filters along with the included Cuisinart gold filter. I tried using the sample paper filters to line the gold filter, and the coffee seemed to taste a little cleaner and smoother.

But most important, my nightly clean-up and preparation routine for the next morning’s fresh coffee was considerably simplified when all I had to do was remove the used paper filter with the soggy grounds from the morning’s brew, and replace it with a new one and dump in fresh ground coffee. No mess, no fuss. When I shopped around for a box of replacement filters and found this special 12-pack of 40 Melitta filters each on amazon.com, it was a no brainer. By buying in quantity the price was only 4.3-cents a filter, and now I’m set for more than 1.3 years. How can you go wrong???

It seems I’m always forgetting to add these coffee filters to my grocery list. That means someone will have to make an unscheduled stop at some point because my husband drinks a lot of coffee. These are the only coffee filters he uses. We’ve tried other brands and also some store brands, but as soon as they are used up it’s right back to the Melitta’s. From the standpoint of a non-coffee drinker I really appreciate them because of the way they hold together after they’ve been used so I don’t have nasty spillage problems on the way to the garbage can or grounds left in the basket.

I finally looked for this product on Amazon and was absolutely amazed at the low price for this many filters. It’s going to be quite a while before I have to worry about running out of Melitta filters again.

Melitta coffee filters are the best in the world. They filter the coffee perfectly, and are sturdy enough not to rip when removed from the coffee pot. Some cheaper coffee filters get a funky smell if not used right away. These can sit on the shelf for months, and remain in perfect condition. I will not buy any other kind of coffee filter.

Solid; good glazing; my morning friend, January 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: HIC No. 4 Filter Cone, Porcelain (Kitchen)

This is a solid piece of ceramic with good glazing. It rests securely on either a coffee mug or my old Mr. Coffee carafe.

This cone has three holes in the bottom, a feature which I have come to see doesn’t make much difference. Apparently, how fine the coffee is ground determines the flow rate more than the number of holes. Once the coffee is through the filter paper, it is going to flow at a steady rate through one hole or three.

This cone is a little heavy, but I feel that it will last a long time. The handle is nice and thick.

I bought this item after trying the more expensive Frieling/Cilo and having bad luck with two of them. (You can see my review on that item’s page.)

Using a cone of any type seems to make better coffee than the many drip machines I’ve tried over the years. You can control the temperature and flow of the water exactly the way you want.

Enjoy!

UPDATE: Have had this now over two months, using it twice every day. Love it. Good, solid, well balanced, and very handy.

Functional, but prefer the Frieling Cilio, January 7, 2010

I had a difficult time comparing this to the Frieling Cilio version that’s significantly more expensive. I ended up getting both, and prefer the Frieling Cilio. I’ve uploaded some product photos to help others make the comparison.

- Weight and thickness: the HIC is significantly heavier and thicker than the Frieling Cilio. I like the lighter weight of the other one.

- Number of drain holes: HIC has three, Frieling Cilio has one larger one. No noticeable difference in draining time.

- Outer diameter of bottom rim: this is the ring that helps keeps the filter holder in place on your carafe. Frieling Cilio has a smaller diameter (2 7/16″) vs. HIC (2 3/4″). My carafe opening diameter is also 2 3/4″ which makes the HIC very awkward and unsteady. Your carafe needs to have a larger diameter opening than the bottom rim on the filter holder.

Small differences, but they add up. I like the Frieling Cilio much better and feel it’s worth the extra cost.

The ultimate cup of coffee !, January 30, 2011

For the ultimate coffee experience, this is a must have for the home brewer. The obvious ingredients for great coffee is the coffee itself (My favorite is Starbucks Casi Cielo), quality water and this simple device. You will need to tweak the coarseness of the grinds to your own personal taste. I recommend the Capresso 560 Infinity Conical Burr Grinder, Brushed Silver Finish

Follow the steps below or this link [...] and enjoy coffee a whole new way. Note that it takes a bit longer this way to make but definitely worth the extra effort.

The coffee geek’s guide to home brewing

-

1. Bring 20 oz good, clear water to a boil and grind 3/4 oz coffee beans to medium-fine (soft, but gritty enough to clump when pressed between fingers).

2. Pour hot water through a Melitta cone (this rids inner filter of paper taste) into your cup, then pour 10 oz of the boiling water into a measuring cup.

3. Empty the water from your cup, add the grounds to the filter, and pour several tablespoons of the measuring-cup water over the grounds to wet them.

4. After a few seconds, slowly pour the rest of the measuring-cup water over the grounds, stirring the mix while you pour.

5. When the coffee has drained from the filter, stir once and consume immediately. You’ve earned this one.lver Finish]] Follow these instructions:

Cuisinart DCC-RWF Replacement Coffeemaker Water Filters, Set of 2

Coffee is 98 percent water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn’t taste good from the tap, it won’t taste any better in your coffee. That’s why Cuisinart suggests adding a water filter to the coffeemaker. The Cuisinart DCC-RWF charcoal water filter removes chlorine, calcium, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.

What is included

  • Simple-to-install design; requires replacing every 60 days or after 60 uses

Freshwater Fluid Flows Freely From Fine Filter!, March 26, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)

I live in Seoul, South Korea, where it is inadvisable to drink water directly from the tap. Unless, that is, your idea of a good time is to let a little amoebic dysentery cozy up and get friendly with your colon.

Okay, so, the water isn’t ALWAYS that scary to drink. Just, uh, just most of the time.

Even when the water doesn’t make you sick, it usually tastes like it’s been funneled through an old radiator. Coffeemakers, generally speaking, don’t include water filters because the brewing process ostensibly kills all of the harmful bacteria. But you can still taste the heavy-metal-goodness in every last drop of leaden java. Lip smacking!

Anyhoo, I purchased a Cuisinart Coffeemaker recently (oh, how I love that machine), and it came with a package of these little filter fellows, and let me tell you, they do the trick. Gone are the filamental-flavors, the taste of scalded electrical wire! All that’s left is pure watery goodness, the clean, crisp clarity of two spic-n-span H’s and one well-scrubbed O. Now, if this little wunder-filter can do THAT for the brackish dreck that passes for water in Seoul, imagine how much more effective it would be on YOUR water!

Uh. Assuming you also do not live in Seoul. Or, er, Mexico. And parts of Bangladesh. And most of Haiti. And also, maybe, Djibouti. (Although I think Djibouti’s been getting its act together with the public water works system these days, thanks to macro-economic reform programs. See the comments section below.)

NOTE: Some elements of the above review may have been exagerrated in order to titillate easily-titillated readers. Readers with tender sensibilities should not have read the previous review.

Waste Of Money If You Already Filter Your Water, January 11, 2010
By
Esteban Ess (Austin, TX United States) – See all my reviews

This review is from: Cuisinart DCC-RWF Replacement Coffeemaker Water Filters, Set of 2 (Kitchen)

I decided to stop using these expensive filters. I already have a Brita charcoal activated filter and use that filtered water directly into my Cuisinart. No problem and very good coffee. When I was using the small Cuisinart filters, I experienced a lot of problems with slow water feed resulting in steam and other problems. I decided, after spending some on filters over a period of a year, that I was just wasting money on these filters. I cleaned the coffee maker after I stopped using the filters, am getting excellent coffee and no more slow water feed and a fine running coffee maker. The coffee tastes as good or better. But, please note that I am using filtered water – just not filtering it in the coffee maker.
